Banned Books Week

Banned Books Week In-Person

Censorship Divides Us. Books Unite Us!

Banned Books Week (September 18 – September 24) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Launched in 1982 in response to a surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries, this celebration is held in September and highlights the value of free and open access to information.

Celebrate Banned Books Week with us all week:

  • View our dedicated Online Book Display
  • Check out a challenged or banned book from our Blind Date with a Banned Book display on our first floor
  • Stop by the Virtual Learning Center to experience Dagon: VR (an H.P. Lovecraft adaptation)
  • Visit our table at Market Day (Wednesday, September 21) to make a button in support of the freedom to read
